Sandeman House

Five Flats

Sandeman House on St Swithin's Lane is a Grade II* listed property with an interesting history and distinctive character, discreetly located in an 18th century courtyard and until recently housing port in its brick vaults. Our brief: to develop a strategy for the renovation of the site to make five private apartments, retaining architectural detail while sympathetically integrating everything necessary for contemporary city living. Completely stripped out and re-planned the new suites have generous living and dining space, rationalised bathrooms and kitchens, and calm, quiet bedrooms. New rich, warm materials add to the fully restored fabric, and a final layer of furniture, textiles and original art gives a familiar finish to a building that works like a hotel but feels like home.
